It is an honour to be selected as the China Fleet Mens Section Captain for 2023/24
I joined the CFCC golf club when it opened in 1991 and have seen it mature over the years into the course it is today, in my opinion one of the best in Cornwall.
I joined the committee some years ago and as a committee we always have the members best interests at the centre of what we do and strive to do our best unfortunately we cannot please everyone but that’s life.
I would like to thank our outgoing Captain for all his leadership and hard work over the past few years. It has been a difficult task with the Covid pandemic and getting us all back on the course to enjoy this great game.
As the new club Captain, I would like to reach out to all members to think about how they could support and represent the club. We have entered several CGU tournaments for the coming year and I would like our members and Team Captains to create once again Top Competitive Teams to put CFCC back in the limelight. Notices of the Team’s Captains will be put up on the notice boards as well as communications via email and on our website, please approach me, the Team Captains, or the Committee if you would like to represent the club.
I do try to get out on the course with different groups of players to get their views and how we can improve as you are the members. However, I believe as members of CFCC Golf Club we all have apart to play to ensure we protect this course. How many of you have been disappointed when you are in a footprint in a bunker, in a Divot on the fairway or repaired numerous Pitch Marks on the green. It takes a minute to rake a bunker, replace a Divot, seconds to Repair a Pitch mark. Remember RDP not “Running Down Period” for those serving or Ex Royal Navy amongst us but “Rake , Divots, Pitchmarks”. Nathan and his team spend hours preparing the course for us, so please at least be courteous and give them some help to protect our great course.
Fixtures for 2023 will be similar to the previous year however we are always looking at doing something different within the year. So, if you have any idea’s please let’s hear them.
It was unfortunate that we had to cancel this week’s Night golf however we will be scheduling for the Autumn.
One idea we have is to have a Cross country Event – Tee off on the 1sttee but going for the 2nd Green and so on.
My charity for 2023 will be Motor Neurone Disease (MND) which is a rare condition affecting the brain and nerves. There is currently no cure for this horrendous disease but the MND Association and continue to find a cure. This is a charity that is close to my heart, and I have raised funding for them in the past and hope everyone supports my Charity Day on Saturday 22ndJuly 2023.
Thank you all, lets have a great 2023 and see you out on the course.
Steph Smith
